A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Lay was a daughter of the late Preston and Minnie Calloway Burns. She was married to the late John H. Lay and was preceded in death by a son, Ray Calvin Lay. She was a member of Paradise African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Missionary Society, the Stewardess Board and the choir. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Paradise A.M.E. Church. The Rev. J. B. Lester will officiate. Burial will be in the Pradise Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Survivors include six daughters, Johnnie Williams, Commerce, Erma Jean Lay, Wilma Studivant, Myra Wilson, and Loretta Lay, all of Jefferson, and Ora Lee Arciniega, Gainesville; three sons, Elder Clyde Leigh, Brooklyn, N>Y>, James Leigh and Claude Lay, both of Jefferson; and a brother, Morris Burns, Dayton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the residence, 59 Cooley St., Jefferson. Forestglen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
