Thomas Colquitt Hardman, 88, Jackson County civic and religious leader, died Thursday at his home. The Rev. Mr. Hardman was the brother of the late L. G. Hardman, a former governor of Georgia. He was a native of Commerce and had written two histories concerning the area, "History of Harmony Grove Commerce," and "History of Saretta Association." He had served a number of rural churches in the area and had also been a merchant and building contractor. For many years he was chiarman of the Board of Deacons of the First Baptist Church in Commerce. He had served on the city council and had been active in the affairs of Harmony Grove Mills. He was a graduate of Mercer University. The Rev. Mr. Hardman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona Wright Hardman; two daughters, Mrs. Willis N. Harden, wife of State Senator W. N. Harden of Commerce, and Mrs. Louis M. Wood of Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Gordon T. Jones of Commerce; grandchildren, Thomas Colquitt Hardman III, Jacksonville, Fla.; Mrs. Hubert Burns Jr., Gainesville; William Hardman, Rome; Willis Harden Jr., Commerce; Mrs. Horace Campbell, Athens; Mrs. Wallace Faulkner, Macon, and Mrs. Nancy Hardman, Commerce, and seven great-grandchildren.
