Anna Cushing Hood, 83, of Jefferson, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006.

Born on June 21, 1923, in Commerce, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and 
Mrs. Robert Carl Cushing. She was a member of the Commerce Presbyterian Church 
(PC-USA), served on the Session twice, and had been active with the Women of 
the Church, and served for seven years as Historian for the Athens Presbytery. 
A devoted military wife, she traveled with her husband and family across the 
globe, from Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and Kentucky to Okinawa and West Europe 
before returning to Commerce in 1964.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Clayton Hood, Jefferson; daughter 
and son-in-law, Frances Louanna and Gary Banister, Gaylesville, Ala.; sons and 
daughters-in-law, Wilton Clayton and LouAnn Hood, LaGrange, and COL (USA, ret) 
Carlton Lyndon and Jackie Hood, Peachtree City; two granddaughters and 
spouses, Sarah K. Hood and Heath Hutchinson, and Carol A. Hood and Robert 
Richardson; grandsons, Kevin M. Hood and William C. Hood; one great-
granddaughter, Hailey Ann Hutchison; a sister, Rowena Lord; and a brother, 
Walter O. Cushing. 

Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 6, at 3 p.m., at the Commerce 
Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the Church one hour 
before the service and immediately after the service until 5 p.m. Private 
interment of the cremains will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce, on a date 
to be determined.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the charity 
of your choice.

Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.
