While it was generally know that she was seriously ill, yet no one expected the end would come so unexpectedly, and the news of her death was a great shock to the town. About two weeks ago she contracted a cold, which later developed into pneumonia and while everything was done to combat the ravages of the dread disease, she gradually grew worse until the end which came last Thursday, the 18th at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon. She was the youngest child of the late Rev. H. E. Hardman and Mrs. Ella Brock Hardman. Jennie Sue was born on the 13 of January 1903, at the family homestead one mile from Commerce and has spent the greater part of her life at home. She was educated at the public schools of Commerce and completed her education at the State College for Women at Milledgeville. In early childhood she gave her life to the guidance of her Lord and was linked with Him in all life’s relations. She united with the First Baptist church at Commerce at a very tender age, before she was nine years old. She loved the Sunday school and church and was always active in her work for the extension of Christ’s Kingdom. She was one of the most faithful member of the young ladies Bible class and was secretary for the class at the time of her death. She was one of the most loyal members of the B.Y.P.U. having served faithfully one of the groups leaders and also as secretary for the organization. She bore unmistakable signs of loyalty to her Lord and during the days of her illness expressed a yearning desire to render greater service to Him in the coming years. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. Wm. H. Wrighton, her pastor, on Friday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at the First Baptist church, after which the burial services were held and the body laid to rest in the Hardman cemetery. The following acted as pall bearers: Mr. T. C. Harman, Mr. J. B. Hardman, Mr. Lamartine Hardman, Mr. George Hubbard, Mr. Fred Williamson and Prof. C. L. Veatch. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ella Hardman, one sister, Mrs. Obe Smith, of Ila, and two brothers, Messrs Charles and William Hardman, of Commerce, and a great host of relatives and friends. Her passing is a loss to our church, town and community, and a personal loss to all who had the good fortune to know her and whose hearts go out in deepest sympathy to her bereaved family. "Beyond the sunset she has gone to rest a little while. The memory of her loving words, the sweetness of her smile, fall like a benediction soft upon our lonely ways. How we shall miss her presence here through all the coming days. And thus she lives forever more tho’ out of mortal sight. Her spirit will upon us shed a calm and holy light, for in the sky at eventide, when fades the crimson bar, we know her light is shining there, a gentle glowing star." A friend.
