N. L. Hutchins, the Judge presiding, appointed a committee to prepare a suitable tribute on the death of our late brother, Robert J. Millican. The committee were, William H. Hull, Junius Hulyer and James Jackson, Esqs. The committee reported the following preamble and resolutions: It has pleased the Almighty disposer of events to remove from our midst one who, at the last term of this Court, was a member of this Bar, in the full career of professional duty and usefulness. Robert J. Millican died of Typhoid fever, on the 18th of the present month, in the 42d year of his age. He had left his family and a successful practice to enter the service of his country, as a patriot in the Jackson County Volunteers, No. 1. He had recently been transferred to a staff appointment in Col. Thomas' Regiment, but was not permitted to enter on its duties. The disease which terminated in his death, seized him at Camp McDonald, in this State. Thus has been cut off in the very prime of life, a sound lawyer, a pleasant companion, a genial gentleman, and an upright man. We who knew him at the Bar, will long remember the urbanity, the candor and the integrity of his professional conduct. His character in the community and at home, needs no eulogies from us. Had his life been spared, we doubt not he would have illustrated in camp and field, all that constitutes the gallant soldier. In view of his lamented death, we offer the following resolutions: That we have heard with deep sorrow, of the loss of our valued friend and brother, Robert J. Millican; and we tender to his family and relatives, the assurance of our warmest sympathy in their sad bereavement. That this report be placed on the minutes of this Court, and the Clerk do furnish a copy thereof to the family of the deceased, and also to the paper in Athens, for publication. A true extract from the minutes of Superior Court, at August term, 1861. This 28th August, 1861. P. F. Hinton, Clerk.
