Born on August 28, 1924, in Clarke County, he was the son of the late Jess and Ruby Spratlin Tolbert. Mr. Tolbert was the owner of Tabo’s Food Store for 25 years before his retirement, a 53-year member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, a member of the New Men’s Sunday School Class, and a charter member of the Jefferson Lions Club, Mr. Tolbert was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nora Bridges Tolbert, Jefferson; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Dan Carter, Lawrenceville; son and daughter- in-law, Freddie and Becky Tolbert, Marietta; two sisters, Becky Slover, Cumming, and Nell Segars, Gainesville; one brother, Melvin “Monk” Tolbert, Pendergrass; four grandchildren, Joseph and Betsy Carter, Anna and Clair Tolbert. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 21, at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson with Dr. Cary Hillard officiating. Burial was in the Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Tolbert, Scott Tolbert, Allen Segars, Jack Slover, Adam Tolbert and Joseph Carter. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.
