Caston in right of his wife Eliza Caston formerly Eliza Mason widow and heir of Thom Mason late of Lancaster District in the state of South Carolina deceased. And as natural guardian and next friend in right of his wife of Araminta Mason daughter & joint heir of the said Thomas Mason deceased & Eliza Mason, formerly, now Eliza Caston And his wife Eliza Caston formerly Eliza Mason Sheweth that Jeremiah Pearson of said county has en- damaged your petitioners one thousand dollars for that -- whereas your petitioners heretofore to wit on the twenty- nineth day of December in the year of our lord one thou- sand eight hundred & thirty one in the County aforesaid were possessed as of their own property of a certain Negro man slave by the name of Ike or Isack and being so thereof possessed your petitioners afterwards to wit on the day & year aforesaid in the county aforesaid [casually?] lost the said Negro man slave out of their possession And the same afterwards to wit on the day and year aforesaid in the County aforesaid came to the hand & possession of the said Jeremiah Pearson by finding yet the said Jeremiah well knowing the premises and that said negro man slave was the property and of right assertained and belonged to your petitioner But contriving and intruding to injure and deceive your petitioner has not delivered said Negro man slave To your petitioners although often requested so to do But afterwards to wit on the day & year aforesaid in the County aforesaid disposed of and converted the same to his own use to the dam- age of your petitioners one thousand dollars. Wherefore your petitioners bring suit and pray process to issue requiring the Jeremiah Pearson in person or by attorney to be and appear at the next superior court to be held in and for the County aforesaid to answer your petitioner in an action of Trover.
