However it was called RANDOLPH COUNTY between 1807-1812, when the name was changed to Jasper. The County Seat of Jasper is the town of Monticello. Jasper is fortunate in that most of its old records have been preserved from the earliest and from these records are to be found many vital links for families that came into Jasper and then later migrated westward into Alabama and other parts of Georgia. Modern day Jasper County is bordered on its western boundry by Butts County; northwest by Newton County;northest by Morgan County; east by Putnam county; south by Jones County, and southwest by Monroe County.
