This indenture made the fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one 
thousand eight hundred and eighteen and in the forty second year of the 
independence of the united states of america Between Elison Gross (sic) of the 
County of Jasper of the one part and Thomas Richards of the County of Morgan of 
the other part Witnesseth that the said Elison Gross for and in consideration 
of the sum of four hundred dollars to him in hand paid at or before the sealing 
and delivery of these presents the receipt which is hereby acknowledged hath 
granted bargained sold conveyed and confirmed & by these presents do grant 
Bargain sell convey & confirm unto the said Thos. Richards his heirs and 
assigns all that tract or parcel of land situate in the nineteenth District of 
formerly Baldwin now Jasper County & known in the plan of District by No. forty 
and containing one hundred one and three fourth acres be the same more or less 
it being on the north east side of said lot lying on Goss creek adjoining 
Daniel Scott and William Hollis & Broad side By Richards land to have and to 
hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and singular the rights members 
& appurtenances thereof whatsoever to the said tract of land being belonging or 
in any wise appertaining with the remainder & remainders reversion & reversions 
rents issues and profits thereof to the only proper use benefit and behoof of 
him the said Thomas Richards his heirs executors administrators & assigns in 
fee simple and the said Elison Gross his heirs executors & administrator the 
said bargained land and premises unto the said Thomas Richards his heirs 
executors & administrators & assigns against the said Elison Gross his heirs 
executors and administrators and all and every other person or persons shall 
and will warrant and forever Defend by virtue of these presents In witness 
whereof the said Elison Gross have hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal 
the day and year first above written Signed sealed and delivered in the
