This Indenture made this the ninth day of April eighteen hundred & forty six 
between Joel Lane of the County and State aforesaid of the one part and Elison 
Gross of the same State & County of the other part, witnesseth that the said 
Joel Lane for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred to him in hand 
paid at and before the sealing & delivering of these presence (sic) the 
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold & do by 
these presents convey unto the said Elison Gross his heirs & assigns ninty one 
(sic) and a fourth acres of land it being the south half except ten acres of 
lot No 175 one hundred and seventy five being in the 17th District originally 
Baldwin now Jasper County & state aforesaid and do by these presence (sic) 
sell grant bargain and convey unto Elison Gross his heirs and assigns together 
with all and singular the rights members and appertainances thereof to the 
same in any manner belonging to his & their own proper use benefit & behoof 
forever in fee simple & the said Joel Lane for himself his heirs executors & 
administrators the said bargained premises unto the said Elison Gross his 
heirs & assigns will warrant and forever defend the write (sic) & the title 
thereof against themselves and against the claim of all other persons 
whatever. In witness whereof the said Joel Lane hath hereunto set his hand and 
seal the day and year above written
