Daniel Freeman, a resident of said state and county, aged seventy-five years who being duly sworn according to law. Doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the dept of Congress June 7th 1822. That he enlisted as a private soldier in the army of the United States in the year seventeen hundred & seventy -----,( The exact year not now recollected,) with Capt. James Williams, and served in the Fourth Regiment of the North Carolina Line. Gen Nash's Brigade, under Col. James Thaxtons who combined to enumerate all the time he was in the service. There were several officiers and under officiers changed frequently during the service names not now recollected. Was never enlisted but once back served a short tour previous to his enlistment, as inductee under Col Rogers commanded by Gen Cardwell of N Carolinia, and was at the battle of Moors Creek Bridge where we defeated the Torries, He left the service in the fall of the same year of the Battle of Monmouth, time ont now recollected. After enlisting he rendevoued at Willmington, N Carolina, and marched from there to Hadleys Point in S. Carolina. After remaining there awhile he marched from there through N. Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, brigade came together at Georgrtown from there to Philidelphia. From there over the Schuylkill under Gen. Washington to the head of Elk, from thense to Shad's ford on the Brandywine was in the battle fought there . And marched from there into winter Quarters at Valley Forge. He was in the battle of Germantown where Gen. Nash was killed and was near him when he recieved hos death wounds. He was also with the army at the battle of Monmouth in New Jersey but was not personally in the fight having been detached on a flanking party that did come into the engagement. In the fall of the year after the battle of Monmouth he was discharged at a place called White Plains to the best of his recollection. Having served out the full time for which he enlisted (two years and a half He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and he declares that is name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state.
