His father was William Allen and mother Pheobe Horton. He was married many years ago to Mary Jane Price, daughter of Leroy M. Price. He is survived by five children: Mrs. W. A. White of Monticello, GA. Mrs J. G. Hardy, of Ben Hill, GA. Mrs. Lucy Millen, Mrs. Kelsey Johnson, and Miss Maggie Allen, of Mechanicsville, GA. He moved early in life to Mechanicsville, GA. and spent most of his life in that community, except in his declining days, when he lived with his children. He served in the War Between The States, as a brave and courageous Confederate soldier, and was at one time wounded, which no doubt hastened him to his grave. His church membership was the Mt. Zion Christian Church. He was a deacon in this church at time of his death. He was devoted to his church, and was a firm believer that Jesus died for the sins of the world, and rose again that all who believe in Him should not perish but have life eternal. His death occurred at the home of his sister Mrs. John C. Key, in Monticello, GA., Jan. 8th, 1912. His last resting place on earth is in Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery, at Mechanicsville, GA., beside that of his life companion. His body lies there gently sleeping while the Georgia pine sings its sad anthem to the host of the unreplying dead. " Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them that love His appearing."
