F. W. Robert, at Monticello, Ga. Among the proudest of the Huguenots who came to this country seeking religious liberty was one Pierre Robert, who became pastor of a French Protestant colony in Santee, South Carolina, 1685 to 1715. From this man began the family of this name in this country. Pastor Pierre Roberts was descended from a family dating back to Wales, 1285, coming through France, 1598, Basle, Switzerland, 1685, and then South Carolina. Their court of arms bears the motto: "Calon wrth calon; Dow a digon." ("Heart to heart; God over all.") The American descendants, though not so numerous, have distinguished themselves in the professions of peace and in the ranks of war. Colonel F. W. Robert, who died Wednesday, aged 75, at the former home of his son, Captain L. W. Robert, now of Atlanta, had been a lawyer, and was well known in Atlanta and Decatur, where he had lived and practiced earlier in life. He leaves property situated in DeKalb county. Three of the brothers of Colonel F. W. Robert were Baptist ministers, all now deceased. One of these, Rev. W. H. Robert, D. D., organized the First Baptist church in Atlanta and preached there for many years in those early days. Colonel Francis Wayland Robert, recently deceased, had been baptized into a Baptist church, but subsequent to the civil war had become identified with the Episcopal church, in which he died--a man of liberal education and of strong Christian character. Other members of this family have adorned the professions of law and medicine. One of the surviving brothers is Colonel B. F. Robert of Atlanta; another is Dr. Richard Furman Robert, of Albany, Ga.; the other two live in Washington, Ga., and Hillsboro, Texas, respectively. Colonel F. W. Robert leaves a second wife and one son, L. W. Robert of Atlanta. Funeral services were conducted over his body in the Baptist church here, and the interment was made in the beautiful Monticello cemetery. Eugene R. Pendleton. Monticello, Ga.
