It was many, many years ago--1815, I believe the family record tells us--- was born at Mechanicsville, GA. Mr. William Page White. He had been a resident here for 89 winters, Dec. 31, last. Only last Saturday March 11th, at 2 o'clock a.m., his soul deserted its old building, and took its flight to another world, which if we are to judge--rest with its Maker in that great and eternal city Heaven. His death was sad indeed, not because he was not prepared to meet and stand the realities of the future, but sad because his useful, sweet life here was brought to a close. Because of this, God had selected him for a long and happy life; his neighbors loved him so; he will be missed so much. He had been a veteran of two wars--the Indian and War Between The States. He served in Captain Lane's Company of the 38th Georgia Militia in the Creek War, muster roll dated May 24, 1836 Jasper County GA., and also served in the Civil War. He was laid to rest in the" White Cemetery". There the Georgia pine sings its anthem to the unreplying dead; there the honeysuckle casts its sweet fragrance in their loving Remembrance. He leaves behind to morn his loss and follow him one daughter and two sons. We extend to the bereaved family our deepest sympathy in the loss of their father.
