   William Austin White, 71 one of Monticello's prominet and beloved residents, 
died at his home on Covington Road Wednesday, November 15.  For the past 
several years he had been in feeble health and his death was not unexpected. 
Mr. White a native of Jasper Co., was born January 24, 1873 at the White 
homestead in Mechanicsville community, and for a long number of years was one 
of that section's leading farmers. At the age of 24, he united with the Mt. 
Zion Christian church and throughout his long and useful life he was loyal to 
the Master's cause.  He was very much interested in church work and the welfare 
of that community for a long number of years. Many years ago he, together with 
his family, moved to Monticello. Mr. White's high ideals and lofty principles 
endeared him to neighbors, friends and acquaintances, and in his passing the 
town and county sustain the loss of a highly esteemed citizen.
    Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion church Friday, November 17, at 11 
a.m., conducted by the Rev. T. T. G. Linkous of Decatur, pastor.  With Mrs. J. 
E. Hill of Monticello as pianist, the choir, composed of Judge Eugene 
Middlebrooks, Mrs. T. O. Benton, Mrs. Hula Oxford, and Mrs. E. A. Green, all of 
Monticello, sweetly sang "Nearer My God to Thee"  "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" 
and "Have Thine Own Way Lord".   Pallbearers were Maurce Chaffin, Algie 
Chaffin, H.T. Edwards, Paul Connelly, Durward Lewis, S.R. Harris.
  Interment was in the church cemetery with E. G. Jordan Company being in 
charge of funeral arrangements.
