This composite photo shows the cover page of the widely published "Court 
Reports", a periodic summary of decisions reached in the Georgia Supreme Court. 
The right page shows some of the legal annotations later applied to "Kitchens 
vs Kitchens", a case brought from the Jasper County Superior Court. The will of 
Charles Kitchens was proven in Jasper Co.(through acceptance of a copy of the 
lost-or stolen-original will)in the October Term-1867. After local appeals 
failed, the case was carried to the Georgia Supreme Court. 

Charles Kitchens died in Jasper Co. on Jan. 13, 1864. His widow, Elizabeth said 
that his will had been stolen, but on advise of counsel, was not encouraged to 
pursue legal action, the reasons being cited; the ongoing Civil War, and her 
advanced age. For some reason she did not obtain letters of administration, and 
the court appointed Jeese M. Owens as administrator. An inventory was quickly 
made, and on March 9, 1864 a sale brought in $5882.30. Sometime thereafter, 
Elizabeth produced a copy of the will, which apparently left everything to her! 
It was presented in Jasper County Superior Court in September 1865. The case 
lingered in the local court for nearly five years. (See three other pages from
