All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Beth Collins http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00011.html#0002523 February 17, 2008, 4:00 pm Source: Will Book 7, P. 84-85 Written: June 21, 1825 Recorded: July 8, 1825 Jasper County, GA Will Book 7, p. 84-85 Ordinary Office Jasper County In the name of God amen --- I being in a low state of health, but in perfect mind and memory do think proper to make some arrangement respecting my worldly goods. – 1st I wish all my just debts to be paid out of any monies owing to me if it can be collected, if not to sell any property that can be best spared to satisfy said debts. 2d I do give unto my Nephew Benjamin Goolsby one yellow bay horse named Charley and one bed, bedstead and furniture to be delivered at my death. – 3d I do give unto my beloved wife Catey Goolsby all the property that I possess, both real & personal including five negroes, to wit Lewis, Betsey, David, Rose and Hester during her natural life except the abovenamed property given to Benjamin; and if she thinks there is any part of the property that is of no use to her I wish my executors to sell it, and put the money to Interest for the use of the legatees, and if she makes more then a sufficient support for her and family out of the property I wish the balance to be put to interest with any other money that may be on hand for the use of the legatees 4th At the death of my beloved wife Catey Goolsby I wish all my property to be sold both real and personal to be sold without reserve, and all the money arising from said sale with all the money or debts on hand to be equally divided among all my living children to wit John T. Goolsby, William Goolsby, Thomas Goolsby, Lucy Bellamy, Reuben Goolsby, Pleasant Goolsby, Joshua Goolsby and Betsey Bishop the daughter of Samuel Goolsby to have half as much as one of six (?) children herein named. And it is my wish that my son Pleasant Goolsby Shall take my son John T. Goolsby and support him during his life after my death and he shall have all the money that would be coming to the said John T. Goolsby for his trouble, and it is my wish that no part of the money intended for John T. Goolsby’s support shall ever belong to the said John or any of his representatives, but solely for the use of his support or the person that supports him – 5th I do appoint my friend Allen Martin and John Keen my Executors to carry this my last will and Testament into effect revoking all others – Given under my hand & seal this twenty first of June 1825. In presence of Jesse Hitchcock John Goolsby Benjamin Goolsby her Elizabeth x Love mark Georgia } Court of Ordinary July term 1825 Jasper County} Personally came into open court Jesse Hitchcock and Elizabeth Love, two of the subscribing Witnesses to the within will who being duly sworn say that they saw John Goolsby sign, seal, publish and declare this instrument of writing to be his last will and Testament and at said time he was of sound disposing mind and memory, and that Benjamin Goolsby _____ the same as a witness in presence of the testator -- Sworn to & subscribed in open court, this 5th day of July 1825.
