I have tried to use the capitalization and punctuation as they appear in the original document, and have inserted question marks where I am uncertain of the word(s) and notes in brackets. ******************************************************** **** In the name of God Amen I Alexander Smith of the County of Jasper and the State of Georgia being of good health of body and of sound and(?) [could be crossed out "mind"] disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my wordly afairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence do therefor publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form viz., I leave my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereinafter to be named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequeath as follows viz., Item 1st I give and bequeath unto my daughter Rebecca one negro girl named Corry Eighteen years old one negro boy named Miles fore years old one bed and furniture one stomp(?) countipin(?) and Blanket- beside one horse saddle and bridle of the value of seventy five Dollars one cow and calf, all which! I give her and her heirs forever. Item 2nd I give and bequeath unto my daughter Harriet one negro girl named Liza Fifteen years old one bed and furniture one stomp(?) countipin(?) and blanket beside one horse saddle and bridle of the value of seventy five Dollars and one cow and calf all which I give her and her heirs forever. Item 3rd I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth one negro girl named L[__?__] [Letta?] Thirteen years old and one negro boy named Martin ten years old one bed and furniture and one countipin(?) & blanket beside one horse saddle and bridle of the value of seventy five Dollars, one cow & calf, all which I give her and her heirs forever. Item 4th I give and bequeath to my Daughters Sally Martin & Eliza Callaway two negroes named Charry (Chany?) and Davy her son, to them and their heirs forever and it is my further will and desire and I mention this Item of my will so to mean that said property as aforesaid in this Item shall not be subject to pay the said Debts or demands of James L. Martin or Martin Calloway the husbands of my said Daughters Sally Martin and Eliza Calloway but the same after my death to go to them thereof the the [sic] legal heirs of my said sons in law Martin & Callaway of my said Daughters, Sally & Eliza of them begotten, to them and their heirs which I give to them forever. Item 5th I give and bequeath the rest and the remains of my Estate both real and personal to wit the lot of land whereon I now live to Elisha H. Smith & Wyatt R. Smith and they to pay my just Debts and the balance to be equally divided between them. Now and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint John Bridevin(?) of the said State and County to be my sole executor of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 30th day of September in the year Eighteen hundred and twenty Eight.
