Both deeds are for the same tract which is identical to that of a land warrant to William Martin for 287-1/2 acres dated 3 August 1789, a survey (#487) dated 4 August 1789, and a land grant dated 4 December 1790 and registered 7 December 1790. 493 <"118" lined out> State of Georgia} Jefferson County} This Indenture made the sixteen Day of De[gone] in the year of our lord one Thousand seven Hundred & ninety seven Betw[gone] John Hartfield of Jefferson County of the one part & James Evans of [gone] other part Witnesseth that the said John Hartfield for and in con[gone] ation of the sum of Thousand Dollars to him in hand paid by the [gone] James Evans at or before the sealing and Delivery of these present[gone] the Receipt is hereof Acknowledged has bargained sold release[gone] Confirmed by these presents doth Grant Bargain Sell release an[gone] Confirm unto the said James Evans his heirs or assigns all that [gone] or parcel of land Lying on Shoulderbone Creek in Greene County [gone] Begining at a Hikcory running S30E48.25 to wateroak th[gone] N60E57 to a hickory from thence to a water oak corner thence Running S60W37 to hicory corner the Begining Being on a[gone] Sides Vacant Land at the time of surveying Suppose to be 287-1/2 acres more or less originally granted to William Martin Together with all and singular the rights members and appertain ances therof whatsoever to the said tract of land being Belonging or appertaining and the remainders Reversions rents premises & appertainances thereunto Belonging as aforesaid and every part therof unto the said James Evans his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and benefit and behoof of the said James Eavens his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Heartsfield and his heirs the said tract of land and premises aforesaid and every part therof unto the said James Evans his heirs an assigns against him the said John Hartfield and his heirs and all of them Do warrant and forever Defend So far as their Rights but in other case whatsoever witness whereof the said John[gone] Hartfield hath hereunto set his hand and seal the [gone] 494 [gone]nd year first above written} [gone]ned Sealed and} [gone]livered in presents of} John Hartfield {Seal} [gone]engamine Anderson} Hancock }Personally appeared before [gone]homas Gordon} County }me on of the trustees for [gond]aid County Benjamin Anderson and made oath that he Saw John Hartfield subscribe to the within Deed of Conveyance an acknowledge for the purpose therein mentioned and that he saw Thomas Gardin subscribe to the said Deed as a witness sworn to this 2d of March 1798 Loyd Kelly JP Benjamin his B mark Anderson {Seal} Registered the 15th of Sept. 1798 Park clk 495 ["119" lined out] State of Georgia} This Indenture made the ninth Day of [gone] Burke County} the year of our lord one thousand seven Hundred and nint[gone] and in the twenty first year of the Americas Independence between W[gone] Martin of Burk County of the one part and John Hartfi[gone] of the County of Jefferson of the other part Witnesseth that the s[gone] William Martin for and in Consideration of te sum of Five Hund[gone] Dollars Lawful money of the said State to him in hand well and [gone] Paid by the sd.
