Invalid Soldiers Pension
"In the State of Maryland, on the 17th day of September, 1862, he was disabled or
wounded as follows: ON the 17th day of September in the Battle of Sharpsburg I was
wounded by a mini ball in the left shoulder the ball creasing the spine and was cut
out on the right side just below the shoulder which has broken my left arm so that I
cannot do any hard labor also has effected my back and spine which at times gives me
great pain which prevents me from doing any kind of work." 

Additional Comments:
It is a testament to the medical officer of the unit that he would live such a wound
and a testament to my third Great Grandfather that he would not go home but would
stay with his unit until it surrendered at Appomattox, VA Apr. 9, 1865.
