Final Rites Held Saturday For Mr. Stapleton

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mr. George Willis Stapleton, 
age 79, of Stapleton, who died Thursday, January 20 in an Augusta hospital.  
Services were held from the  Stapleton Baptist Church with the Rev.'s Ronnie 
Durham, John Barrett and Harry Williams officiating.  Burial was in the 
Stapleton Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Jefferson County, a farmer and owner of a fertilizer and gin 
company in the Stapleton area for many years.  He had served on the Jefferson 
County School Board of Trustees for several years.  He was a Mason and a 
veteran of World War I.  He was a member of the Stapleton Baptist Church, where 
he served as a deacon.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Florence Flanders, Decatur; Mrs. 
Mildred Launis, Monroe; and Mrs. Sarah Dillon, Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil; one son, 
Walter H. Stapleton, Stapleton, and one sister, Mrs. Julia S. Webb, Stapleton.

Pallbearers were S. M. Kitchens, W. B. Jones, John Kilgore, James Lee Hobbs, S. 
W. McNair, Hubert Williford, George Peebles and W. T. English.

George Willis Stapleton was born 29 July 1897 and died 20 January 1977, son of 
Jesse Walter Stapleton and Willie Florence Hobbs.  He married Lucile Elizabeth 
Rivers 26 October 1919 in Jefferson Co., GA
