He was the son of the late Albert S. Stapleton and Margaret Jones Stapleton, both natives of Jefferson County. He was educated in Stapleton schools, Stapleton, Ga., Atlanta Law School, and Southern School of Pharmacy, Atlanta. He was a member of the Stapleton Baptist Church and an Odd Fellow. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola Smith Stapleton; one son, Bruce H. Stapleton, Seoul, Korea; two brothers, Dr. James W. Stapleton, Dublin, Ga., and Leroy Stapleton, Metter, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. L. M. Durham, East Point, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at Stapleton Methodist Church Friday at 2:30 p. m. with Dr. Amplus Howard and Rev. Sanford Wills officiating. Burial was in Wrens City Cemetery. Pallbearers were L. M. Hayman, Walter H. Stapleton, T. E. Miller, John Kilgore, Jr., James E. Fleming, and James Lee Hobbs. For some years Mr. Stapleton was a regular contributor to The News and Farmer. At one time the paper published a story in serial form which he authored. After his health failed he often enlivened the office force with sprightly comments and mailed to the editor jokes that he had enjoyed.
