Stephenson Charlie Ray Stephenson, 74, of McDonough, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Henry Medical Center. Mr. Stephenson was born August 2, 1929, in Franklin County, to the late Irene Odessa Bailey and the late Henry Keeling Stephenson. He served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam and Korea and retired after 20 years as a Seabee, also serving in the South Pole, Morocco, Guam and the Annawetock Islands in the South Pacific during the atomic test. Mr. Stephenson also retired after 20 years as a Department of Justice employee, having served in the Department of Correction in Lorton, Va., and the U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta, retiring in 1991 after 40-plus years with the federal government. He was a member of Flippen United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men and the American Legion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11, in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, McDonough, with the Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. Burial will be in Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Mr. Stephenson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean Marie Crandall Stephenson; children and spouses, Dan Stephenson, Forest Park, Mary and Jerry Duffey, McDonough, David and Pamela Stephenson, Ball Ground, and Michelle and Wesley Wilkerson, Locust Grove; grandsons, Matthew, Brian and Jeremy Duffey and George Alexander Stephenson; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Ralph Harper, Jackson; and brother and sister-in-law, Brandon and Shirley Stephenson, Commerce. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 672648, Marietta, GA 30006, in memory of Mr. Charlie Stephenson. The family was to have received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Haisten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
