Mt. Carmel (Paynes Chapel)


This cemetery was once a large cemetery. Mt. Carmel Church was
located at this site near Emory Gay,Jr. The church remained at
this site from about 1821 to 1855. It was then moved and became
Paynes Chapel. Paynes Chapel was relocated four times since it
was organized in 1776. The cemetery is in very poor condition.
