Bennett, daughter of the late Autman and Etta Mae Thomas, departed this life on Monday, June 2, 2003 at University Hospital in Augusta. Mrs. Bennett was born in Jenkins County on October 12, 1943. She attended Burgess-Landrum High School and worked diligently at the voting poll in Jenkins County, while serving faithfully as a local civil servant. She was also a devoted member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and the Burgess-Landrum Alumni. Mrs. Bennett leaves behind to cherish her precious memories three loving children; two sons, Joseph (Debra) Lassiter of Savannah and Arnold (Debra) Mosley of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Alfreda Lassiter of Latham, New York; three brothers, Harris (Juanita) Thomas of San Diego, Calif., Clifford (Benzie) Thomas of Canton, Ohio and Robert Thomas, who preceded her in death; two sisters, Betty Ola Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mary Henderson of Oakland, Calif., eight grandchildren, Alex, Erika, Christina, Adrian, Shalise, Taja, Arnold Jr., Bre'yanna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. --The Millen News, July 2, 2003.
