Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Elam Cemetery with Dr. Maurice Crowder and the Rev. Jerry Hood officiating. Mr. Newton was an Alzheimer's patient at the Georgia War Veterans Home at the time of his death. He served his country as an intelligence specialist in the 13th Air Force in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a graduate of Gordon Military College, Georgia Southern University and the University of Georgia. He spent most of his career in the field of education.
