A service celebrating his life, death and resurrection was held at Millen United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, with the Revs. George Durham and F. Thomas Mason officiating. Mr. Reeves was born in Burke County and lived all his adult life in Jenkins County. He was a member of Millen United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the administrative board. He was a member of the Millen City Council for 18 years and Mayor Pro-Tem for many of those years. He was past president of the Millen Lions Club, past president of the Millen Rotary Club, where he was also a Paul Harris Fellow and Will Watt Fellow. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a former Boy Scout leader and was active with Easter Seals. He served as vice chairman of the Jenkins County Development Authority, past chairman of the Board of Ogeechee Valley Bank and was on the Jenkins County Hospital Authority. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy and owned Reeves Oil Company, a Gulf Oil and BP dealership until his retirement in 1994. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nell Stokes Reeves; his children, R. Hubert Reeves III, Millen, Robert S. Reeves, Swainsboro, and Barbara R. Partain, Cartersville; one brother, Robert A. Reeves Sr., Millen; two sisters, Betty R. Norris, Evans, and Amalie R. Helbert, Duluth; and nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were F.A. Black, and grandsons, Scott Reeves, Rhes Reeves, Chris Reeves, Tripp Partain and Matt Partain. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Millen Rotary Club and the Beulah Garner Sunday School Class.
