A memorial service was held 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jonathan Carroll officiating. Stone was born in Martinsville on Sept. 19, 1984 to Charles Marshall Stone and Nancy Black Stone, both of the home. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, state Sen. William Francis Stone Sr. He was a 2003 graduate of Martinsville High School, where he played varsity basketball and soccer. He was beginning his sophomore year at the university of Mississippi, where he was on the dean's list. He was majoring in political science and history. He was a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church and a past member of Broad Street Christian Church Boy Scout troop number 326. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: a sister, Ivey Courtney Stone of Grundy; a brother, Charles Sanford Stone II of Lexington; grandparents, Mrs. Ivey Courtney Stone of Martinsville and Virgil Howard Black and Betty Hall Black of Millen; uncles and aunts, Howard and Betty Black of Millen and Preston and Margaret Martin of St. Simons; and a cousin, Brooke Martin of Wrightsville.
