She said he always "told on" or "tattled" on her. She said he caught a snapping turtle. Told her it would not bite her. She stuck her finger out to it. It bit her. Made her mad. She threw a piece of stove wood at him Her mother spanked her. Dow died in the house in the field near the Sardis Church. She said he died of Palagra and they had to hand carry his casket to Sardis Cemetery. Vanna said Dow is buried next to Florence. I looked up the reason for Palagra and it was from a vitamin defeciency with a diet of mostly corn. It was a contributory reason for the death of James Florence Poole, father of Dow. He chopped all of their heads off and told the hawk, "now you won't get any more of them". Kept bragging that nobody could grow peppers that were too hot for him to eat. One day he was eating at a friends house and they gave him some sure enough hot ones. Uncle Bennett chewed and the more he chewed the more perspiration was popping out on his face. He took the peppers out of his mouth, put them on the table, and said "now catch a-fire" Daddy used to tell these little antics he had seen or heard about Uncle Bennett doing over and over again.
