His first wife, Sara Elizabeth English, was his first cousin. All his children were by his first wife. Evidently he married his first wife for love and/or children. He had an eye for business when he married his last of three wives as there were all widows with property. ( Guill note: To increase the confusion, Sara Elizabeth English was the great-granddaughter of William Johnson, granddaughter of Aaron and is reflected twice in the William Johnson, Sr. geneaogy! ) His second wife, Mrs. Ellen Lowe (Rogers), was the widow of Dr. Fons Rogers of Warrenton and had property. She had a son, Carlton who was raised with the Pool children. My daddy was four years old when his mother died and Grandpa "Brad" married "Ma Ellen." Daddy didn't remember his biological mother. He never liked to hear any one put a step-mother down as he said he said he had the best step-mother in the world. She must have been a saint to take on that house full of children and already had one of her own. According to Rev. Henry Norris, who knew Grandpa "Brad:' well, three months and 12 days after Grandpa "Brad's" first wife, Lizzie, died he married again. Reverend Norris' mother got after Grandpa "Brad" about remarrying so soon after his first wife died. She told him, "You married again you married again and Lizzie's tracks are out yonder in the garden." Grandpa "Brad's" reply, "Lizzie is just as dead as she will ever be." Ma Ellen died of tuberculosis and is buried in Johnson Church Cemetery. Mrs. Lenora "Nora" Wilson Burgamy was his third wife. She was the widow of William R. Burgamy and had property, some of which was a house and 4 to 5 hundred acres of land in Washington County near Hamburg Mill, now Hamburg State Park. Grandpa "Brab' we no fool. I have seen some understandable resentment in the Burgamy Family over this as Grandpa "Brad" wound up with all Grandma Nora's property that was left to her by her first husband. She is buried in Pine Hill Methodist Church Cenletery in Washington County. She rests by her first husband. Mrs. Molly Ayres Reeves was his fourth wife. She was Grandpa "Brad's" first cousin also. She married W.H. Reeves first. Grandma Mollie was no "spring chicken" when she married Grandpa "Brad" in 1922. He was 75 and she was 76. They were both old enough to know better. (Grandpa "Brad" finally married a woman who outlived him.) Grandma Mollie is buried by her first husband in Reeves Cemetery in McDuffie County. I don't know if Grandpa "Brad" was partial to marrying his first cousins (two out of the four) or where there was a plentiful supply, or whether he just couldn't do any better. Grandpa "Brad" died 1 January 1929 and I was born 12 May 1929-1 missed him about five months. I can't decide whether I missed anything or not by not having known him. I have never heard him referred to as anything but "Old Man Brad Pool". Buried at Johnson Church. Eunice Gertrude "Bug" Pool (1875-1939) She was the daughter of Wilham Bradford Pool and Sera Ehzabeth English. She married John Smith Johnson And all 1 had ever heard her called was Aunt "Bug" and I was grown before I found out "Bug" was a nickname. Seems, as a child, she was fond of catching June bugs, tying threads to their legs and letting them fly 'round and 'round her. I've done it.) That little bit of trivia courtesy of Mrs. Midred Darden (Johnson), daughter-in-law of Aunt "Bug'. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 4.0 Kb
