He was the son of Stephen Tyson and Martha Williams Tyson. His father Stephen was killed in CSA, never got to see his son Jeff. He was reared by Cass and Martha along woth the four they had together. He was half brother to Sam, Charlie, Margaret, and Shade. Jeff went to Augusta and obtained an MD degree from the Medical College of Georgia. When he returned to Johnson County, he practiced medicine in a small building in the front yard of the Shade Hall place for just a few years and then moved his practice to Adrian. The building was still there c1995. I can well remember as a child looking into it and seeing the beautiful wood for the counter, slelves, and other furniture. There were many bottles of all different sizes and colors still on some of the shelves. Really quite lovely. He had a big wooden shutter type opening in the side of the building that could be propped ( up ) open to let in light and ventilation. One of my cousins said in jest one time, " this might have been the first drive thru doctor office and / or pharmacy in the U.S.". It was also said the patients could just drive up in their buggies or wagons and interact with him thru this opening. He had an operation ( believe Kidney operation ) and was recuperating when a friend gave him a "bear hug" and caused internal injuries leading to his death c1905. He is buried near Adrian. His widow married Ansbury A Fountain. From The History Of Adrian by Darlene Chapman below; The first Doctor to live in Adrian was Dr. Jeff Tyson, whose office was in his home. Doctor Tyson was responsible for the first telephone exchange in Adrian in 1898.
