Last Name First Name Middle Name Birth Death Comment --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jackson Charles 15 May 1760 1830 Parents: Benjamin & Amy Jackson, Jacksonborough, S.C. Additional Comments: As of 1978 there were only two Revolutionary War graves located in Johnson County. The inscription on this marker reads, "Lieut. Charles Jackson, S.C. Militia, Revolutionary War. Charles Jackson was an American Revolutionary War soldier who joined the Continental Army at age sixteen (16) circa 1776. He was promoted to the rank of 1st Lt. in Capt. Hendrick's Company, in Col. Benton's Regiment at age twenty-two by Govenor John Matthews of S.C. He fought for the American Army throughout the War. Charles Jackson and his family migrated to Washington County, Georgia (which included the present Johnson County) in 1802. Charles Jackson was buried behind the old Jackson home, and in 1917 a marble marker was placed at his gravesite by the Samuel Elbert Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Over the years, the Jackson homeplace burned, the road was changed, and the gravesite became lost. It was relocated in 1973 (Charles Jackson's 218th birthday) by the John Laurens Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Many descendants of Charles Jackson now live in Johnson County. *Note-The above exerpt was taken from the book, "Searching for Our Ancestors Among the Gravestones, A cemetery record of Johnson County, Georgia" published in 1978 by the Johnson County Historical Society.
