Questions for witness as to Service of Husband State of Georgia, Johnson County. J A Rowland of said State and County is hereby presented as a witness in support of the application of Mrs Nancy Hall for the pension provided by the Act of 1910 and the Constitutional Amendment of 1920, in said State, who, after being sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows, to wit: 1-What is your name and where do you reside? J A Rowland, Wheeler Co Ga 2-How long and since when have you known Mrs. Nancy Hall applicant? All her life 3-Where does she now reside, and since when has she been continuously a bona fide resident of this state. Johnson County, Ga. and have lived in the State all her life. 4-When and to whom was she married? G A Hall. How do you know? From having seen them living together for forty years as man and wife. 5-How long and since when did you know G A Hall her husband? All my life 6-When and where did G A Hall the husband of applicant die? October 12, 1942 at his home in Johnson Co 7-Were the applicant and her husband living together as husband and wife at the date of his death? Yes 8-If not how long did they live apart before His death? Were they divorced? 8-When where and is what company and what regiment did George A Hall enlist? Give date and place and names of Colonel and Captain. Some time in the year 1864. Macon, GA. Don't remember the Colonel. Tom Waters was Captian. 9-How did you obtain your information of this service? By being with him. 10-How long within your personal knowledge did he perform actual Military service with this Company and Regiment. Give Dates. About 6 or 8 months. 11-When and where was his Command surrendered or discharged? Give date and place. George A Hall was at home on furlow when the surrender was. 12-Were you personally present with this command when it was surrendered? NO If not where were you? At home. And how came you there? Had been discharged on account of bad health. 13-Was the husband of applicant personally present with his Command at its surrender? No If not where was he? At home And how came him there? On furlow. When where and for what cause did he leave him command? Give Date. Had furlow By whose authority did he leave his command? Captain Tom Waters And how long was he granted leave? Don't know. How do you know all that you have stated to be true? If of your own knowledge state clearly and specifically. I had been discharged as stated above and Mr. Hall came home on furlow and saw him in person. 15-For what cause if your know of your own knowledge, was he prevented from returning to his command? War ended before he had to return under his furlow. 16- What effort did he make to return to his command and how do you know that? None 17-Was he captured as a prisoner? No. 4--When where and in what Company and Regiment did your husband enlist as a soldier in Confederate Army or Georgia Militia? Was at home sick on a furlough. 6--Was your husband personally present with his command when it was surrendered or discharged? At home sick. 7--If he was not present state specifically and clearly where he was? At home sick on furlow. 8--When did he leave the command? March 1865. a--For what cause did he leave. Sickness b--By whose authority did he leave? Captain Thomas Walters c--For how long was his leave of absence granted? Thirty Days. In what way? By consent of his Captain, Thomas Walters. e--What was his physical condition when he left his command? Had fever. f--What effort did he make to return to his command? Was sick when war closed. g--In what way was he prevented from going back to command? Was sick. h--Was he captured by the enemy at any time? No i--If so when and where and in what prison was he held and was he released? j--When and where did your first husband die? October 12, 1924, Johnson, Co. k--Were you residing together when he died? Yes l--If not how long had you resided apart? m--Are you now a widow? Yes. 9--Have you or your husband heretofore been paid a pension by the State of Georgia or any other State, or the United States? Brantley who on oath deposed and says that she knows Mrs Nancy Hall who before her marriage to George A. Hall was Miss Nancy Foskey. Deponent further deposes and says that she was present when Miss Nancy Foskey and George A. Hall were married and that it was about 1870. Clark, Atlanta Ga, Dear Mr. Clark, you will please send me the turned down application of Mr. Barney Garnto's and Mrs Nancy Hall's which was turned down some time ago. As they are very anxious to look them over and try to amend and see if they cannot correct the mistakes, you will please give us in detail the trouble with these applications in order that we many correct them if we can, and oblige. yours Very Truly, U.R. My dear Judge, Your letter regarding the application of Mrs. Nancy Hall, the widow of George A. Hall, for a pension has been received. There is no record of George A. Hall or of his witness in the command claimed. The witness in a paper filed some years ago claimed to have served with Mr. Barney Goronto and Mr. Geo. A. Hall. Mrs. Hall may amend her application, but it is not possible to return the papers that have been recorded and filed in this office.
