Claxton, 57, who died Sunday after a long illness were held at New Home Baptist Church, near Kite, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Dr. Rufus D. Hodges of Dublin and Elder Sidney Claxton of Swainsboro officiated. Burial was in New Home Cemetery with DeLoach Mortuary of Swainsboro in charge. The deceased was the son of Mrs. Mary Tyson Claxton of Dublin and the late Bennett Claxton. He is survived by his mother; one daughter, Mrs. Holmes Watkins of Claxton; two sons, Lamar Claxton of Swainsboro and J. K. Claxton of Kite; two sisters, Mrs. Marcus Rowland and Mrs. Rufus Williams of Wrightsville; three brothers, M. L. Claxton of Dudley, Bennie Claxton of Dublin, and Zach Claxton of Bartow; and 12 grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Clarence Smith, Jake Scott, Elijah Overstreet, Rudolph Fields, Claude Fields, and Johnny Lamb of Swainsboro. Honorary pallbearers included Gordon Thigpen, Hartridge Fields, Lindsey Moore, E. B. Watkins, Wiley Powell and C. E. Reed of Swainsboro, Dr. E. B. Claxton, Dr. J. A. Bell, and M. Z. Claxton of Dublin. Additional Comments: Joe was born 6 Nov 1894. Georgia death certificate #11752. He was married to Mattie Lindsey Tyson who is also buried at New Home Cemetery.
