Higgs, 53, will be held at 2:30pm Thursday in the New Berlin Baptist Church, Oceanway, with Rev. Alton Dobbs, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, under the direction of Key-McCabe Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street. Mr. Higgs, who lived at 12807 Gillespie Ave., died Monday evening following a brief illness. He was born in Adrian , Ga. and had lived in Jacksonville since 1928. He was a member of the New Berlin Baptist Church and was associated with the Houdaille-Duval Construction Co. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Eva Gladys Higgs of Jacksonville; his mother, Mrs. Mary Higgs; three daughters, Mrs. Mary C. Alonzo, Mrs. Gloria Elaine Thomas, and Miss Cecelia Ann Higgs; two sons, Jack H. Higgs and James R. Higgs, all of Jacksonville; two brothers, William E. Higgs of Jacksonville and Eugene Higgs of St. Petersburg; and ten grandchildren. Additional Comments: James was born 19 Jun 1911 to Jack (James) Homer Higgs and Mary A. Townsend Higgs.
