VANLANDINGHAM SUCCUMBS TO LENGTHLY ILLNESS AT HIS HOME MONDAY NIGHT FUNERAL HELD YESTERDAY Death invaded the city again. The Grim Reaper bore down from his towering strength and heighth and took away another of the aged and most highly respected citizens of the county at 11:15 Monday night, when Mr. Lewis Edward Vanlandingham was called to his reward above. An illness of several months confined this beloved citizen to his home and for the most time for several weeks to his bed, and he was finally weakened by the clinging ravages of disease unto the end, which had been expected by the family. Since coming to live here several weeks ago from his country estate in the county he had been very feeble. Born in Wilkinson county Aug. 28, 1854, Mr. Vanlandingham was one of the eldest citizens, arriving at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 4 days. He married when about 21 years of age, his wife being Miss Elizabeth Sheppard of Wilkinson county. He moved to Johnson in 1884. Mrs. Vanlandingham and three children survive, one son Mr. John W. Vanlandingham; Mrs. Nora Page of Harrison and Mrs. Maxie Tompkins of Sandersville, the two daughters. He had one sister living, Mrs. Nell Hall of Irwington. He was a faithful member, worker and advocate of the church his membership being with the Methodist denomination most of his valuable career. A neighbor remarked Tuesday morning that he recalled in his early boyhood having attended Sunday School and the teacher was our departed friend. He was a friend to man. Religious services from the Wrightsville Methodist church at ten o'clock yesterday morning were held for him with the Pastor, the Rev. H. H. Heisler conducting them. He was laid to rest, after the service was over, in West View cemetery. The funeral was in charge of the T. V. Kent Funeral Home.
