                             Mrs. Charles A. Smith
 Mrs. Velma Johnson Smith of 1806 Wasp St., widow of Charles A. Smith, died 
Sunday at a local hospital.
 Funeral services were hels today at Friendship Baptist Church, Noth 
Charleston. Burial, directed by Stuhr's, was in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
 Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 8, 1908 in Whittaker, NC, a daughter of Elijah 
Johnson and Florrie F. Johnson. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
 Surviving are five daughters, Kathleen Corcoran of North Charleston, Geraldine 
Stachwicz of Goose Creek, Patricia Ouckett of Charlotte, NC, Barbara Jones of 
Hatnes City, Fla., and Judy Minter of Ladson, Fla.; four sons, Charles A. Smith 
Jr. of Hanahan, Stanley E. Smith of Aiken, and John W. Smith and Richard W. 
Smith, both of Goose Creek; 24 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

NOTE-- Social Security Application Information lists her place of birth as 
Wrightsville Georgia

Her parents were Elijah J. Johnson and Florie Dovie Ford.
