(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net September 25, 2011, 3:19 pm The Macon Telegraph 3-19-1975 Page 1 Thompson's Father Dies Remus Warren Thompson, the father of Mayor Ronnie Thompson, died in Coliseum Park Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a long illness. He was 65. Services will be held at 2pm Thursday in Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Thompson, a native of Johnson County, had lived in Macon for the past 30 years. At the time of his death, he lived at 3483 Pine Haven Drive. Mr. Thompson was employed for many years by Friedman's Jewelers in Macon and later was associated with Ronnie Thompson Jewelers. He was a member of Corinth Primitive Baptist Church, Mabel Lodge 255, Scottish Rite, and Al Sihah Temple. He was also a Mason. Survivors other than Mayor Thompson, include Mr. Thompson's wife, Mrs. Mattie Lou Watkins Thompson of Macon; two sons, William W. Thompson of Augusta and Kenneth Thompson of Macon; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Rabun of Macon; a brother, William I. Thompson of Augusta; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Ray and Mrs. Allie Bell Wells, both of Augusta. Additional Comments: Remus was born 2 Apr 1909 to Willie dean Thompson and Julia Tyson Thompson.
