Jones County Georgia Bio Bayne (Bayn), John Henry File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by David and Bobbie Bayne" Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/jones.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm JOHN HENRY BAYNE(BAYN) BORN 1760 WESTMORELAND CO. VA DIED 1840 CLINTON ,JONES CO. GA. This is one of the most energetic men that I have ever seen. He is the son of William Bayn and Elizabeth Weaver, grandson of Matthew Bayn, son of the 7th Laird of Tullock. He is spoken of ,by name, in his father's will.It has been stated that the BAYNE boys staied at Mt. Vernon and is spoke of by George Washington. It is true that the BAYNE boys are spoken by G.W. but these are the sons of John Bayne( Col.) of Maryland who G.W. knew and was a school mate to G.W. son. The second myth connected to the BAYNE boy and G.W. was they came to Ga. with G.W. on his trip through in 1790, but they staied. This I have not been able to confirm or deny. How ever the BAYNE boys got to Ga. they are there. By the way the 2nd BAYNE boy was Charles H. Bayne. and as much as I have found on John Henry I have found little to no record on Charles H. The Grorgia record of the life of John Henry Bayne by date. 1793 Columbia Co. Ga. muster roll Jno. Bayne 1793 2 Nov Warren Co. Ga. as J.P. John Bayn 1796 1 Feb Warren Co. Bayne ( head of house ). foot notes: John's second wife ------- -------- Smith I have not found a marriage nor death. and I have not found a death date for the first wife. and sad to say I have not found the final resting place of John are any of his wives.... 28 DEC 1997 David L. Bayne John in his will does not help us to know or name his children. In the book " ALL OUR SOUTHERN FAMILY " it give three sons,Charles Bayne, John Milton Bayne , and Henry Hooten Bayne as if they were his only children. The 1820 census is a clue 1) Charles Bayne is 22 years old and not listed. 2) John Milton Bayne is 16 years old and maybe the 1 son 10/16 noted on the census. 3) Henry Hooten Bayne was not born so ofcourse not listed. This leaves 1 son under 10, 2 daughters under 10,and 1 daughter 10/16 that we do not know. We may have some clues as to who these children may be. Jamerson A. Bayne in 1827 won land in the lottery,he would have been 21 at this time and is from Jones Co. He marries Mary M. Fredrick on May,20th 1830 in Bibb Co. Ga. Book "A" page-81. He lives in Cullodenville, but looses his house and land to a man named Brown. A note that John H. Bayne bought a lot in Colludenville in 1828. He may have been born about 1806 then he would be the son listed on the 1820 census of John for the age 10/16,and John Milton being 16 would have been in apprentistship somewhere and not listed with his father John H. Elizabeth Bayne marries Leonard D. Buckner on 18th Nov 1829 in Monroe Co. Ga. Book "A". This is very interesting for both William F. Bayne(my great, great, grandfather) and Charles Bayne, son of John Henry Bayne, are living in Monroe Co. Ga at that time. Secondly the 2nd wife of Leonard D. Buckner is Martha M. Bayne, who on the 1850 census of Ga.,states, that she was born in 1814 in Jones Co. Ga. L.D.B. two wives are sisters. Sarah Bayne,b. 1795 Ga., marries Ducan McDuffie on 19 Oct 1813 in Jones Co. Ga. Book "A" page-22 Matilda Bayne, b. 1802 Ga., marries Isaac H. Alford on 23 Dec 1827 in Jones Co. Ga. Book "A" page-365 I'm not saying that the above four ladies and one gentleman are children of John Henry Bayne, but it would have saved us that look on these records ,and the wonder , a few grey hairs and sleepless nights. If J.H.B. had taken the time to list all his "lawfull children " and not let us wonder. Did he have unlawfull children? Was he married before 1796,at the age of 36. I have not found the Virginia records of John Henry Bayne. These could make the muddy waters clear,or put us in a worse cragmire. Those Bayne folks who can count themselves in the lineage of the three known son should be THANKFULL. This note is from the writtings of Thomas Levingston Bayne, grandson of J.H.B. This is a discription of J.H.B. " He was about five feet, eight inches high, of fair complexion and light gray hair, walked with a curiously twisted, gold-headed hickory stock, and used a small black snuff box freely. he had a gentle, affectionate face and a soft kind voice. " This discription was from when T.L.B. was about eight or nine, which would have been about 1832 or 1833. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
