Funderburk is born in Jones County, GA the son of Bryant Funderburk and Jane H. Love. Jan. 8, 1857 William A. Funderburk married Leah Ann Matilda Gordon in Jones County. She is probably the daughter of William Henry Gordon and Leah Palmer. Nov. 15, 1858 James H. Funderburk and William A. Funderburk sell the estate of Bryant Funderburk to Francis B. Hascall. 1860 census William A. Funderburk is listed as an overseer. May 10, 1862 William A. Funderburk enlisted in the 12th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia, CSA. May 23, 1862 The 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment was engaged at Front Royal, Virginia. May 25, 1862 The 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment was engaged at Winchester, Virginia. May 27, 1862 William A. Funderburk was admitted to CSA Hospital in Winchester, Virginia. May 31, 1862 William A. Funderburk is taken prisoner at Front Royal, Virginia. Jun. 1862 W.A.F. paroled at Winchester, Virginia. Jun. 8, 1862 The 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment was engaged at Cross Keys, Virginia. Jun. 9. 1862 The 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment was engaged at Port Republic, Virginia. Jun. 26 and Jul. 1, 1862 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. engaged in the Seven Days Battles. Jul. 8, 1862 W.A.F. was admitted to U.S.A. General Hospital, Baltimore, MD. for Typhoid Fever. He was released and paroled Oct. 12, 1862. Oct. 13, 1862 W.A.F. was at Ft. McHenry, MD then sent to Ft. Monroe, Virginia for exchange. Oct. 24, 1862 W.A.F. was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital # 4 in Richmond, Virginia for Debility. He was released Nov. 14, 1862 and sent to Camp Lee. Dec. 11 through 15, 1862 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. was engaged at Fredericksburg, Virginia. May 2 through 6, 1863 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. was engaged at Chancellorsville, Virginia. Jun. 9, 1863 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. was engaged at Beverly Ford and Brandy Station, Virginia. Jul. 1 through 3, 1863 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. was engaged at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Nov. 15, 1863 Leah Ann Matilda Funderburk, the wife of William A. Funderburk dies leaving three children. Nov. 26 through 28, 1863 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. was engaged at Mine Run, Virginia. May 5 through 7, 1864 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. was engaged at Wilderness, Virginia. May 8 through 18, 1864 The 12th GA Inf. Regt. was engaged at Spottsylvania, Virginia. William A. Funderburk was captured at Spottsylvania on the afternoon of May 10. May 19, 1864 W.A.F. arrived at Belle Plain, Virginia as a POW and transferred Jul. 25, 1864. Jul. 28, 1864 W.A.F. arrived at POW camp at Elmira, NY. Jun. 14, 1865 W.A.F. was released from Elmira, NY. Family tradition says he walked home from Virginia after the war. Jan. 6, 1866 The Bible of William A. Funderburk shows Thomas Lee Funderburk is born. Dec. 9, 1867 William A. Funderburk married Julia Frances Coulter in Jones County, Georgia. She was the daughter of William Q. Coulter and Elizabeth Bradley. 1870 and 1880 census showed William A. Funderburk was a farmer. Past relatives told that William A. Funderburk lived on the Addie Redding place. Oct. 30, 1895 It is believed a fire burned the Funderburk home and their daughter Fannie died in the fire. Feb. 26, 1900 William A. Funderburk died and is buried in the Ben. Woodall Cemetery at Wayside, Georgia.
