Jackson, son of Mary (Polly) Hammock and John Jackson, b. Virginia, was probably born in Wilkes County, Georgia in about 1803. His siblings were Green Thompson, Edward, Lucy, Wilkins, John II, Andrew and Lewis. He married #1 Franky Murphy March 20, 1825 in Georgia. Franky was born ca 1805 in Georgia and died ca 1840 in Georgia. She and William P. had the following children: Allen (Green(e) Jackson, John Jackson, William H. Jackson, Reuben Jackson, Mary Jackson and Robert Jackson. Following Franky's death, William P. married Temperance Lane on December 21, 1943. He and "Tempi" had three children: Lucy, George W. and Temperance. My ancestor, Allen (Green(e) Jackson was probably born in Jones County, GA about 1830. He married Caroline M(ary) Leslie December 4, 1852 in Jones County. They had the following children: Mary Elizabeth b. 9-17-1853 (married Wiley Henry Williams); William "Billy" Monroe, b. 11-11-1854 (married Ellen Samantha Jarrel James), Julie Jackson, b. 1857 (married William T. Smith) and Columbus "Major" b. 1858 and Sallie, b. ca. 1860 (married Billy Waldon). Family legend says that Allen Green(e) Jackson died from measles while serving in the Confederate Army. This happened during the time he was being held as a POW in Florida. I have been unable to find any records to verify this account. However, in the History of Jones County, William P. Jackson is said to have lost 4 sones in the Civil War. I believe one of those sons to be my ancestor, Allen Green(e) Jackson. I do know that his widow, Caroline M(ary) Leslie Jackson accompanied her children to Texas and died in Panola County, Texas before 1900. Allen Green(e)'s and Caroline's daughter Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) is my ancestor. Mary Elizabeth married Wiley Henry Williams, b. 4-9-1854, Georgia, on February 17, 1977 in Forsyth, Georgia. While still living in Georgia, the following children were born to this union: Mittie Roberta, b. 1878, Jones County, GA; Hugh E. Williams, b. 1880, Jones County, GA; and Joe Williams, b. ca. 1882, Jones County, GA. Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) and Wiley Henry moved to Texas in about 1883 and settled in Panola County in East Texas near some of Bettie's Leslie uncles who'd moved there before the Civil War. Also accompanying them on this move to East Texas was Bettie's brother, William "Billy" Monroe Jackson and his family. Bettie's and Billy's widowed mother, Caroline M(ary) Leslie Jackson also accompanied the family to Texas and died before 1900. After arriving in Texas, Bettie's & Wiley's infant, Joe Williams, died ca 1884 and Sarah Lee "Sally" was born that same year. My grandmother, Ada Florence was born March 1, 1886 at Longbranch in Panola County. She was followed by Georgia Alice, b. 1-6-1888; Annie Missouri, b. 11-17-1889; John Edgar, b. 12-23-1891; Susie Mae, b. 3-27-1894 and Kate Elizabeth, b. 6-16-1897. Times were difficult and Billy's wife became very homesick for her family in Georgia. After several years in Texas, they returned to Jones County, GA. Their daughter, Nola, was named for Panola County, Texas. My grandmother, Ada Florence Jackson, married Joseph Dixon Reeves in Arlam, Texas on November 19,1903. To this union were born: Arthur Lee, b. 2-21- 1905; Velma Roberta, b. 2-14-1907; Louis Donald b. 1909; Dixie Elizabeth, b. 7- 11-1911; Joseph Wiley, b. 1914; Anna Lois, b.9-18-1917; James Gilbert, b. 1919; and Betty LaMerle b. 7-17-1922. My mother is Dixie Elizabeth Reeves and she married Clint Croft in Houston, Texas on May 7, 1938. To this union were born: Clint Croft, Jr., b. 7-15- 1939; Betty Carole, b. 1-19-1942; James Earl, b. 12-1944 and Vernon Lee, b. 11- 23-1948.
