Jones County Georgia Bios Wilder Family Bio File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Gaila" Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/jones.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm Willis and William Wilder were born in North Carolina- exact dates and places unknown. Willis definitely fought in the Revolutionary War and William was said to have fought in the Rev War, but didn't apply for a pension. William did receive a land grant for Rev War service. I assume them to be brothers, but that is only because they are in near proximity in Jones County and Willis is a witness on several deeds and William Wilder's will. In the Wilder book, it says they fought with Elijiah Clarke. Georgia's Roster of the Revolution - Knight 1967 nominates Willis Wilder as a sergeant, Major ______Wilder and Faddy Whittington (pg 432). Is William the major? Page 436, Georgia Revolutionary Pensioners -compiled by Miss Helen M. Prescot from the Report of the Society of War in relation to the Pension Establishment of the United States. Senate Documents Pension Roll, First Session 23rd Congress, No.12 Washington, printed by Duff Green, 1835 page 448, Willis Wilder Jones County. By this time Faddy Whittington had moved to Pike County, Ga and I lose track of him. William Wilder had died by 1835. William Wilder married first wife unknown, second: Mary Whittington and thirdly Frances (Fanny- no surname found) Willis Wilder may have been married prior to his marriage to Pheriba Clarke 02/01/1810 Jefferson County, Ga The 1811 Tax Digest has Faddy Whittington (Whittenton) owning 109 1/4 acres Jones County adj Melton on the Hog Creek watercourse Willis Wilder (Wildair) has 202 1/2 acres Jones County adjacent W. Wildair Dry Creek William Wilder (Wildair) has 202 1/2 acres Jones County adjacent Beard on Walnut Creek and has 300 acres Jones County adjacent Wildair (either his own land or Willis's ?) (I don't have the page for Reuben Roberts, sorry) Willis Wilder also purchased land on 10th of May, 1810 from John Bolding of Warrenton County, Ga to Willis Wilder of Jones County which was originally Lot # 1 in the old 7th District of Baldwin County joining my own line lot smudge and cornered on lightwood stake join No 2 which half lot or parcel of land I bind myself, heirs...to Willis Wilder. On the 18th day of May, 1819 Reuben Roberts, Green Wilder and John Jenkins, JP witnessed the deed selling Jones County land of Absalom Jordan to Joseph Stiles. William Wilder's daughter Elizabeth married a Roberts. They all witnessed deeds for each other and the families seem very close. I will search for a few other records. I am descended from William Wilder and would love to share information on this family. Mathew Wilder's will indicates his son William who may not have been 21 at the time the will was written. Willis and William must have been born about 1755- I don't have definitive proof on their parents, so would be to old. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
