Two stones "Smelie Seabrook, Born June 7, 1788 died September 3, 1848". "Mrs. M.M. Seabrook, [Martha Fickling Seabrook] wife of S. Seabrook, age 65 years" The stones are reported to be in good condition and enclosed by rectangular stone walls two feet high. The present owners of the property plan to preserve and care for them. These are the graves of Martha Fickling and her husband Smelie Seabrook. In the history of the Seabrook family of SC, Vol. 4 of the SC Historical Society Genealogies, this couple is listed. She is listed as "Miss Fickling" and on the Seabrook chart prepared in 1964 and also in the SCHS they were mentioned as having resided in Jones County. Jones County records show Smelie Seabrook as having witnessed a will May 6, 1839. The 1850 Census for Jones shows a Martha Seabrook as head of a household. A will for Martha M. Seabrook was proved February 4, 1862. In the 1832 Land Lottery Draws Book B a "Smeilia Seabrook, Benjamin Seabrook", orphans of Robert Seabrook, are listed. In book A "Smelie Seabrook and Robert Seabrook', orphans are listed. Smelie Seabrook, born 1788 (SCHS) was the son of John Seabrook Sr (died April 19,1807 SCHS) and Anne Smelie. He was the brother of Joseph Smelie Seabrook of Wadmalaw Island SC and first cousin to Joseph Henry Seabrook who came to Gadsden County in North FL in 1829 and was a cotton planter. Another brother was Robert Whitmarsh Seabrook who married May 16, 1810 Mary Crawford (SCHS). The above "orphans" may be his children.
