Barfield of the county of Morris of State of Texas of the one part and Joseph Stevens of the County of Jones and State of Georgia of the other part. Witnesseth That the Said John R. Barfield doth for and in consideration of the sum of Six Hundred and fifty dollars cash in hand paid at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained Sold and Conveyed and by these presents doth grant bargain Sell and convey unto the Said Joseph Stevens his heirs & assigns all that tract or parcel of land lying Situate and being in the county of Jones State of Georgia Known & distinguished by being part of lot No. (174) one hundred & Seventy four Containing one hundred acres more or less the Same being the North part of Said lot lying North of a branch running through Said lot, Said branch being previously agreed on as a line established between J. R. Barfield & Mary A. Lystor, She holding a deed to that portion of Said lot of land, on the south Side of Said branch, also a part of fraction No. (191) One hundred and ninety one that being the west part of Said fraction, by a line Starting at the Steven Rivers [should be Bivens?] old farm and running through lane by the house where Eliza Barfield (colored) lives. Said line to run through as Said lane did Run in 1882, and to continue through Said fraction Straight with Said lane to the South line of Said fraction, the Same to contain Fifty acres more or less of Said fraction making in the aggregate (150) acres One hundred and fifty acres more or less in the Sixth district of Originally Baldwin County now Jones (interlined before Signed) adjoining lands of Newton Ethridge on the north, J. R. Barfield on the East & Mary A. Lyster on the South. To have and to hold Said tract or parcel of land unto the Said Joseph Stevens his heirs and assigns together with all and Singular the rights members reversions rents profits and appertenances thereof to the Same in any manner belonging to him and their own proper use benefit and behoof forever in fee Simple. And the Said John R. Barfield for himself his heirs executors and administrators the Said bargained premises and land unto the Said Joseph Stevens his heirs Ex’rs Adm’rs & assigns will Warrant and forever defend the right and title thereof against themselves, and against the claims of all and every other persons whomsoever. In Witness Whereof the Said John R. Barfield hath hereunto Set his hand and Seal the day and year above written. John R. Barfield (L. S.) Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of Witness M. Chombery State of Texas County of Morris I John Hinnaut a resident of the State of Texas duly appointed and Commissioned by the Governor of the State of Georgia for a term ending 31st day of Dec’r 1888 to take and certify the acknowledgement of Deeds or other Conveyances of property in this State of Depositions under Commission or otherwise of Power of Atty of Wills executed by persons devising or bequeathing property within this State and other instruments in writing required to be attested under the laws of the State of Georgia, and also to administer Oaths or affirmations being also duly qualified by taking the Oath required by law do hereby certify that John R. Barfield who is personally Known to me acknowledged before me this day that knowing the contents of the foregoing instrument he executed the Same Voluntarily on the day the Same bears date.
