Smith, Executor of Harrison Smith From Reubin Johnson Book P, P. 551 Deed to Secure Debt December 8, 1837 75 Acres of Land, Mare & Oxen This indenture made this 8th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven between Reubin Johnson of the county and State aforesaid of the one part, and Sterling W. Smith Executor of Harrison Smith, deceased of the same place. Witnesseth that the said Ruebin Johnson hath this day made and delivered to the said Sterling W. Smith, Executor of Harrison Smith, decd, his certain promissory note with Purnell W. Owens as security subscribed with their hands and bearing even date with these presents whereby the said Reubin Johnson hath promised to pay the said Sterling W. Smith, Executor of Harrison Smith, decd, four hundred and six dollars on or before the twenty fifth of December one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight ensuing the date hereof for value received. Now for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars by the said Sterling W. Smith, Executor etc. to the said Reubin Johnson in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged as well as for the better securing the payment of the aforesaid promissory note the said Rubin Johnson hath granted, bargained and sold and doth by these presents grant, bargain and sell unto the said Sterling W. Smith Executoretc. his heirs and assigns. All that tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county and state aforesaid and on the waters of Walnut Creek being part of lot number ninety three, bounded as follows: beginning at a Chinese pine tree on the bank of Camp Creek in the old line, thence south fifty degrees east eighty four poles to a post oak Smith's & King's corner, thence south fifty five degrees west supposed to be one hundred & twenty poles to a post oak and little black oak sapling standing in the road side and near the Mill, thence west to a large post oak standing on a ..... near the Mill Pond, thence up the meanders of Walnut Creek on the east side to the beginning and containing seventy five acres of land more or less, and the said Reubin Johnson reserves for the use of John King his heirs and assigns to high water mark on said line. Brooks Book P, P. 628 Deed to Secure Debt February 20, 1839 405 Acres of Land & 8 Slaves This deed of Mortgage made this the twentieth day of February in the year eighteen hundred and thirty nine between Charles H. Brooks of said County of the one part and Sterling Smith Executor of Harrison Smith, deceased, of said County of the other part. Witnesseth that when the said Charles H. Brooks has this day made and delivered to the said Sterling W. Smith, Executor aforesaid his certain promissory note in writing whereby the said Charles H. Brooks promises on or before the twenty fifth day of December next to pay to said Sterling W. Smith Executor of Harrison Smith,decd, or bearer two thousand three hundred and ten dollars and eighty seven cents for value received. Now for the better securing the payment of the said promissory note and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to the said Charles H. Brooks in hand paid by said Sterling W. Smith at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereby hereby acknowledged the said Charles H. Brooks has bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents do bargain sell and convey unto the said Sterling W. Smith, Executor as aforesaid his heirs and assigns the following lands and Negroes to wit. Lots of land numbers eighty seven and eighty eight in the eighth district of originally Baldwin now Jones County, each containing two hundred two and one half acres more or less, they being the lands whereon the said Charles H. Brooks now lives adjoining the lands of Alexander O. Hunt & William Richardson. Eight Negroes to wit, Allen a man about thirty three years old, Jinny a woman about twenty eight years old, Little Allen about fifteen years old, Lew a boy about thirteen years old, Nance a girl about eleven years old, Mary about nine years old, and two other children of said Negro woman Jinny their names not now recollected, one being a boy and the other a girl. his Witness Charles x H. Smith, executor of Harrison Smith of said County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James Long for and in consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said Sterling W. Smith, executor, as aforesaid and for the better securing to him the said Sterling W. Smith executor as aforesaid in the payment of a certain promissory note made by the said James Long and bearing even date with these presents. Whereby the said James Long on the twenty fifth day of December next the said James Long promised to pay the said Sterling W. Smith executor of Harrison Smith deceased or bearer three hundred and fifty-one dollars and nine cents for value received. The said James Long has bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said Sterling W. Smith, executor as aforesaid ninety two and one half acres of land more or less it being a part of lot of land or number one hundred and forty four in the eighth district of originally Baldwin now Jones County lying in the west corner of said lot of land adjoining the lands of John Powell & Marion Bazemore. Smith of said County, Executor of Harrison Smith, deceased of the other part. Witnesseth that whence the said James Long together with John R. Carr and Stephen Renfroe did on the sixth day of March in the year eighteen hundred and thirty eight make their certain promissory note in writing whereby the said James, John R, and Stephen, we or either of them, promised on or before the twenty fifth day of December the next to pay said Sterling W. Smith, Executor of Harrison Smith dec'd or bearer the sum of four hundred and eighty one dollars and sixty eight cents now for the better securing the payment of the said promissory note and for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to the said James Long in hand paid by the said Sterling W. Smith, Executor as aforesaid the said James Long has bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said Sterling W. Smith Executor as aforesaid his heirs and assigns. All that tract or parcel of lands containing one hundred and forty seven and one half acres more or less, situate lying and being in the eleventh district of originally Baldwin now Jones County, it being part of lands whereon the said James Long now lives adjoining lands of John Power & Abraham Brown, ...... Carr Book Q, P. 107 Deed to Secure Debt December 15, 1840 92-1/2 A & 144 A in 8th dist.& 1 Slave This deed of Mortgage made and entered into this the fifteenth day of December 1840 between John R. Carr of the County and State aforesaid of the one part and Sterling W. Smith Executor of the last will and testament of Harrison Smith, deceased of the same place of the other part; Witnesseth that the said John R. Carr for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged as now for the better securing to the said Sterling W. Smith Executor as aforesaid certain promissory notes made by the said John R. Carr and bearing even date with these presents, whereby one of said notes the said John promised on the 25th day of December 1841 to pay said Sterling W. Smith as Executor aforesaid or bearer four hundred and eighty six dollars for value received and by these presents John promises to pay said Sterling as Executor as aforesaid or bearer five hundred and twenty two dollars for value received. The said John R. Carr hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, convey and confirm unto the said Sterling W. Smith, Executor as first aforesaid his heirs and assigns two tract parcels or lots of land situate in said County to wit: ninety two and one half acres being part of lot number one hundred and forty four in the eighth district of the original survey of Baldwin County. And one hundred and forty seven and one half acres part of lot whose number is not recollected situated in the eleventh district of said survey of Baldwin County and adjoining the first mentioned lot, the whole adjoins lands of Powell, Brown, Bazemore and others and in the occupancy of James Long, being the same premises this day conveyed by said Sterling W. Smith to said John R. Carr in fee simple. Also one Negro man about twenty six years old by the name of Ben. Witness: John R.
