Ross Ordinary ----- ---------------------------------Affidavit to be Made by the Widow State of Georgia County of Jones In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary in and for the County of Jones Mrs. Hannah M. Harris, who being sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of A. B. Harris who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company A, of the 32 Regiment of Ga Volunteers; that he enlisted in said service on or about the latter part day of Apr 1862, and was in the Confederate Army up to close of the war. That while in the Army, he was on the ___________ day of _________ 186_, (See Note No. 1) at the battle of Ocean Pond in Fla. severely wounded by a gun shot through the leg - that by reason of said wound he was furloughed for 90 days when he returned to the service previous to that time he was an active ______ sound man 34 years old but after being so wounded he lost his health so that he was of no further service - on his return from the war he was broken down physically - his general health gave way entirely - and during the balance of his life and up to his death he suffered from the said general breaking down of his health - he was never sound again. Was constantly under treatment of physicians - He finally died on the 8 July 1890 in Jones Co. of the dis____ so contacted in the service - During his long continued illness from the time he returned home he said that he could never recover from said disease. Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the Army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife of the 2nd day of October 1850, and that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the (blank) day of (blank) 1837; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23d day of December, 1890, and since said date she has not lived in any other State or locality. Deponent, as the widow of said deceased soldier husband, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approved December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th, 1896, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the pension granted by said Act. W. F. McKay, Jas. A. Jones & Alex S. Herndon and (blank) (each known to said Attesting Officer as truthful, reliable and reputable citizens), who severally say under oath, that, From Their Own Personal Knowledge, Mrs. H. M. Harris, now a resident of the County of Jones, State of Georgia, is the widow of A. B. Harris who was a soldier in Company A of the 32 Regiment of Ga Volunteers. That said soldier enlisted in the service of the Confederate States (or the Georgia State Troops) on or about the latter day of April 1862. That while in said service or by reason of said service in the Army, he lost his life as follows: When he enlisted he was a particularly strong vigorous man - about 32 or 33 years old - at the battle of Ocean Pond in Fla he was severely wounded and for said wound was furloughed him for 90 days - that at the expiration of that time he returned to the service and remained there until the war closed but was much disabled. When the war ended he came home broken down, his general health having given way - he was a very sober, quiet, well behaved man and took care of a ______ his health the best he could but he never recovered from the said disabilities so ____ could be the ____ at no time was he able to do a man's work as he had been before the service not with standing he ought them to have been in the prime of life. He constantly needed physical treatment for said disease and died of same 8th July 1890. Our opportunity for knowing the facts stated in reference to death of applicant's husband were: Herndon and Jones were in service with him - McKay was his near neighbor and an _____ officer while said Harris was furloughed all the witnesses have been constantly and intimately acquainted with him since 1860 to the time he died and believe he died of the hardships of the service. We further swear that Mrs. Hannah M. Harris was the wife of said soldier during the service, and that she has not intermarried since his death, and that she resided in said State of Georgia on the 23d of December, 1890, and that she has so continued to reside up to this date. Harris the applicant for a pension in this case, and know from my own knowledge, (or from positive proof presented to me by reputable witnesses), that she resides in this County, and that she resided in the State of Georgia on December 23d, 1890, and has not lived out of the State since that date. I also certify that the witnesses to wit: Alex S. Herndon, J. A. Jones and G. W. F. McKay, whose testimony she presents to sustain her claim, are known to me to be truthful witnesses, entitled to full faith and credit as such, and that the full text of the affidavit was read to and understood by them before same was signed. I am fully satisfied that this claim is made in good faith, and that I have caused the applicant and the witnesses to read or hear read the proofs they sign. That he lost his life on the (blank) day of (blank) 1890 (state here full particulars of the husband's death, when, where and from what cause.) was shot in the leg at Battle of Ocean Pond in Florida and became paralyzed of said wound and died in the year 1890. Anderson, who being Sworn deposth and Saith that he attended the deced. A. B. Harris as his family physician in his lifetime and remembers to have noticed that one of his legs was somewhat atrophied on account of a wound that was received in the late war. I found him in feeble health and suffering with rheumatism and generally debilitated. D__ an apoplectic tendency of which he finally died.
