Jones County Georgia Military - Rev Soldiers buried in Jones File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by GenieAnn@aol.com Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/jones.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm List is based on Mrs. Carolyn Williams "History of Jones County". Additional information contributed by researchers. These Revolutionary Soldiers (while living in Jones County) drew in the land lottery (see the specific year). This land was located in the Cherokee Lands(northwestern section of Georgia). Many "fortunate drawers" never moved to the land, but sold it instead. The deed of the sale would be in the county in which the land is located today. Name Date of Lottery Where Buried Alsabrook, James, Sr. 1832 Jones Co. Alsabrook, James 1827 Jones Co. Militia Ga. Roster Rev. p 483. 1793 Muster Roll of Militia 1st Reg. Jno. Lamar, Thos. Lamare. Greene Records found at the Ga. Archives (Family Folder) show John was not only brave to a fault but that his services were of "Long continuance and his suffering excessive." Very shortly after entering the Army he was deprededid (?) with others to the performance of a perilous duty in which he was deserted by his companions and left to execute the order alone, which he did to the admiration and astonishment of all. For this act of intrepidity and fidelity the government tendered him the Lt. in the regular forces which he modestly declined on the ground that he was too young and inexperienced to assume the responsibilities of the station being at this time only seventeen years old. He served under General Marion and Pickens attached to the Battalion of the latter; was at Battle of Eataw and Cowpens, seige of Augusta and several other engagements. Once he was taken a prisoner but made escape from Camp of Cornwallis, rescuing at the same time one of his cousins He was twice wounded during the war by the British and once by the Indians. 1799 (and this same handwritten epistle) He was still alive after 1810 Deed-- 1818 Tax Digest John Lamar 202 1/2 acres Twiggs lived Jones.
