State of Alabama county of Barbour On this 27th day of January , A.D. one thousand eight hundred and 79 personally appeared before me, G.H Estes clerk city court of Eufaula, the same being a Court of record within and for the county and state aforesaid, (1) Sarah Howell aged 84 years, a resident of Eufaula, in the state of Alabama, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is a widow of (2) Dempsy Howell deceased, who was the identical Dempsy Howell who served under the name of (4) Dempsy Howell as a (5) Private in the company commanded by Captain Easter, in the regiment of Georgia, commanded by Wimberly in the war of 1812; that her said husband (6) Dempsy Howell at _( Illegible) Clinton on or about the 15 day of September, A.D. 1814, for the term of 6 Months, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of (7) 4 Months, and whose services terminated, by reason of (8) Discharge at Darien Ga, on the ____ day of ( Illegible ), A.D. 1815. She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz: (9) 6-ft 4 in. High black hair blue eyes. Fair complexion husky built. She further states that she was married to the said Dempsy Howell, at the city ( or town ) of ______________ , in the county of Jones, and in the state of Georgia, on the _____ day of ______ A.D. 1813, by one (10) Gray, who was a (11) Justice of the peace and that her name before her said marriage was Commander, and that she has not remarried since the death of said soldier : and she further states that (12) never has married but once and that her said husband (13) Dempsey Howell, died at Monroe Co. : in the state of Georgia , on the 19th day of July 1840, A.D. _______: and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the army, viz: (14) Married in Jones Co. Ga removed to Twigs Co. Thence to Monroe to Crawford thence to Barbour Co Ala where she now resides. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension to which she may be entitled under the provisions of section 4736 to 4740 inclusive revised statutes, and the act of March 9, 1878, and hereby constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation, N.W. Fitzgerald of Wash. D.C. her true and lawful attorney, to prosecute her claim and she further declares that she has heretofore made _______ application for (15) Land and recd 120 Acres and that her residence is No. ____, _________ street, City or town ) of Eufaula.
