Services will be at 11AM today in Elam Baptist Church in Jones County with burial in James Cemetery in Jones County. The Rev. Gary Thomas will officiate. Mrs. Asbell was born in Jones County and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Hugh Gordon Dame and Julia Christian Dame. Mrs. Asbell was a homemaker and was a member of Elam Baptist Church., where she was a member of the Prime Timers, the Adult Sunday School Class No. 4, the Women's Missionary Union, and she was also a former of the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lee "Shorty" Asbell. Survivors: daughters, Betty Balkcom of Macon and June Ahl of Lexington, Texas; sisters, Barbara D. Bloodworth and Martha D. Bone, both of James; grandchildren, Tim Ahl of Baytown, Texas and Tyri Ahl of Louisiana; and one great-grandson, Jakeb Ahl of Baytoen, Texas. The family will be at the residence of Barbara Bloodworth, Stewart Farm Road in Jones County. Pallbearers will be C. L. Asbell, Tommy Asbell, Preston Hawkins, Hulin Harvey, Bud Christian, and Donnie Bloodworth. Bridges Funeral Home in Gray has charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: Mary (maiden name Dame) Asbell was born 4-5-1914 and died 10-2-1996 and is buried in James Cemetery in Jones County. Her husband, James Lee "Shorty" Asbell is also buried there.
