She had been on a visit to her brother Maj. Mullings [sic], and on hearing of the illness of her son, D. W. Lester, started home, was taken sick between Fort Valley and Macon, about 8 o'clock at night and died of Apoplexy at the Brown House about 10 o'clock next morning. Sister Lester was baptized in 1828 or '29, at Elim, Jones county, by Rev. J. S. Callaway, and was at the time of her death a member of the Baptist church at Blountsville. For nearly 35 years she lived to exemplify the christian religion. She was a lady of the tenderest feelings, and manifested unusual concern for the spiritual welfare of her relatives and friends. Often in the public congregation she seemed irresistibly impelled, by the interest she felt, to approach her unconverted acquaintances, and beseech them instantly to seek the Lord and obtain the salvation of their souls. Concerning her social and domestic relations too much could hardly be said in her favor. Ever cheerful and sympathetic she was an agreeable companion, kind neighbor, faithful wife, doting mother, humane mistress. Had friendship, gratitude and love the power to retain her, she had yet lived. But she has gone, leaving husband, children and friends to mourn. But while their loss is irreparable, they draw sweet comfort from the blest assurance that she died as dies the christian, triumphant in death. Life's sorrow's are over and life's joys and glories have dawned on the spirit of the "blessed dead that die in the Lord." Her "works follow" her--the "yet speaketh." Let friends and relatives emulate her virtue, and try all to meet in that better land, "Where those who meet shall part no more, And those long parted meet again."
